Anne-Marie and David Guetta have a serious hit on their hands with their new single, “Don’t Leave Me Alone.” The pair announced the release earlier this week, and it arrived today (July 26). An emo and electro-kissed banger, it is easy to imagine it becoming a late entry in the running for the title of Song of the Summer. On it the “Rockabye” siren pleads with a lover to stay by her side. “I don’t want to lie, can we be honest? Right now while you’re sitting on my chest. I don’t know what I’d do without your comfort,” she warns on the opening lines. The beat picks up as she moves into the chorus, where her pleas become even more demanding. “Don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever go,” Anne-Marie wails over the French DJ’s production. “I’ve seen it on TV, I know how it goes. Even when you’re angry, even when I’m cold. Don’t you ever leave me, don’t you ever go.”

The accompanying lyric video is a suitably emotional affair. In the animated release, a pink-haired character is seen grieving for her lover after a fight. It is all rainstorms and sadness without her partner; however, a heart-shaped balloon flies through the sky and offers a glimpse of a happy ending. With any luck “Don’t Leave Me Alone” will find plenty of love in the coming weeks. It would be nice to see the anthem make a dent on the Billboard Hot 100. Anne-Marie already landed a Top 20 hit on the chart this summer with her Marshmello-assisted “Friends,” but Guetta’s Sia-assisted “Flames” missed it entirely despite going Top 10 in the UK. This seems like a surefire winner for both parties involved. I’m also crossing my fingers for an official music video, which will definitely give it a promotional bump.
