Nicki Minaj has pushed back the release of Queen by one week in order to get a sample cleared. That means the rapper’s 4th LP will now drop on August 17, the same date as (frequent collaborator) Ariana Grande’s Sweetener. However, there’s no bad blood. Ariana was quick to soothe fans after the news broke. “That’s my fucking sister,” the pop star tweeted. “She’s clearing a sample. Buy and stream queen & sweetener aug 17 bye. These numbers don’t mean as much to the artist as they do to y’all. Jus want y’all to listen to the project.”

The rapper then jumped online to further clear the air. “I love this woman,” she wrote, quoting one of Ari’s tweets. “Can’t wait for the fans to benefit from all the hard work on both ends. We love your passion. You guys will be VERY happy. Trust. That’s all I’ll say.” This is actually quite a clever and common marketing move. Releasing two anticipated releases on the same day always results in healthy sales figures due to increased fan awareness and casual listeners taking sides in the chart battle. See their non-plussed tweets below.
