They Have Arrived! LOONA Officially Launches With Debut Single, “favOriTe”
The wait is (finally) over! Today (August 7), K-Pop superstars LOONA made their official debut as a 12-piece group following an ambitious, multi-single rollout that’s been going on for nearly two years. Starting back in September of 2016, they have been introducing individual girls and sub-units every few months. Back in March they announced Olivia Hye as the final member. Now it is time for everyone to unite on their first single together, “favOriTe.” Last year, we collectively ranked all of their output as the best K-Pop music from 2017. We also listed them as one of five acts to keep an eye on in 2018. Based on the exceptional quality of their new single, it is clear that they will be living up to expectations.
Over a sugary pop production, the girls (HeeJin, HyunJin, HaSeul, ViVi, YeoJin, Kim Lip, JinSoul, Choerry, Yves, Chuu, Go Won, and Olivia Hye) deliver a compelling vocal performance. All things considered, it sounds like an absolute smash. And the accompanying video is equally impressive. In it, they deliver some intricately choreographed moves in a variety of settings. Dressed in matching school-girl uniforms, they move in perfect sync. The effort is definitely paying off. In a little over six hours, the video has been viewed nearly 415,000 times. These are strong numbers for any group’s official debut, and it makes it clear that LOONA’s fans are out in full force.
After years of anticipation, things are falling in line for the girls. And they have more exciting news for the rest of the month. The ladies will take the stage for the first time as a full group on August 19. With their debut concert titled LOONAbirth, it seems safe to expect that even more new music is on the way.
