Cher Teases “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” As First Single From ABBA Album

Time goes by so slowly… when you’re waiting for Cher’s album of ABBA covers to drop. Happily, it looks like we won’t have too long to wait. The pop legend fired up her iconic Twitter this afternoon (August 8) to share a snippet of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” which is also assumed to be the lead single. Of course, that 1979 disco classic will already be familiar to pop fans as the song Madonna sampled on “Hung Up.” It’s hard to tell from a 40 second snippet, but it’s fair to say the 72-year-old makes it her own.

Cher announced that she was recording an album of ABBA covers while promoting her role in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on Today. “After I did ‘Fernando,’ I thought it would really be fun to do an album of ABBA songs, so I did!” she informed Kathie Lee Gifford. The enduring hitmaker developed a taste for vintage Swedish bops while filming the box office-conquering musical. The “Woman’s World” singer recently revealed the tracklist and it’s tantalizing, to say the very least. Listen to a preview of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” below.
