Things are getting serious as Troye Sivan readies the release of his sophomore LP, Bloom. He has already graced us with a string of near-perfect singles. The 23-year-old kicked things off with his euphoric “My My My!,” which made an appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 and went Top 20 in Australia. From there, he has showcased his creative range. He stripped things back on “The Good Side,” delivered a solid-gold #BopBoutBottoming with “Bloom” and teamed up with Ariana Grande on his sensual “Dance To This.” Today (August 9), the crooner is unveiling his new promo track “Animal” ahead of the album’s August 31 release date. In previous interviews he has described it as an “’80s stadium love song.” Expectations were high, and the hitmaker has more than delivered once again.

“I told you something safe. Something I’ve never said before. And I, I, I can’t keep my hands off you. While you lie in the wake, covered all in the night before, I’m high, high, high. No one’s got me quite like you,” Troye croons on the slow-burning anthem. After delivering a lush garden of explosive synths and larger-than-life productions on some of his previous output this era, his latest strips back many of the excesses. Instead, he highlights his pure emotional connection with a lover over a sparse production. “I want you all to myself. Don’t leave none for nobody else, I am an animal with you.” There’s a striking beauty to the lyrics which were crafted with the assistance of a team including frequent collaborators Allie X and Leland. One thing is clear after a listen. With each taste, Troye’s forthcoming album gets more and more exciting.
