2018 has been a particularly collaborative year. Many of music’s biggest acts have been linking up to work together on staggering new releases. And one of the most exciting collaborations has been between Sia, Diplo and Labrinth. The threesome formed a pop supergroup titled LSD back in May and kicked things off with the release of “Genius.” One week later they dropped their summery “Audio,” which went on to amass an impressive 76 million streams on Spotify. Things got a little quiet as Diplo turned his attention toward his Silk City project with Mark Ronson and his new duet, “Sun In Our Eyes”. But today (August 9) they are back with their new single, “Thunderclouds.” Considering the overwhelming amount of talent involved with the group, it is hardly surprising that it is another serious win.

Over more bright beats Sia and Labrinth sing about the importance of trust and resilience in love. Trading off verses, they paint a bleak picture of a relationship on the cusp of a breakdown. “You’re asking me to stay, but I’ve never met a girl I could trust,” Labrinth laments. Although the chorus paints a similarly dark image, it ends with a positive message. “You’re saying those words like you hate me now. Our house is burning when you’re raising hell. Here in the ashes your soul cries out, but don’t be afraid of these thunderclouds,” they sing in turns. Those final lines turn the track on its head and provide a burst of hope for the belabored partners. Paired with another compelling production, this could easily become their biggest hit to date.

Keep an eye peeled for an official music video in the near future. Based on a photo that appeared on Diplo’s Instagram, it looks like their new outing will feature Maddie Ziegler. Considering her involvement in some of Sia’s greatest videos (“Chandelier,” “Elastic Heart,” and “The Greatest”), it seems like the young dancer will be channeling the Aussie siren’s vibes once again. The trio’s previous visuals have been colorful affairs, and the blend of reality and animation in “Audio” was particularly intriguing. Hopefully they pull out all the stops for another must-see event. While we wait to see them in action give their latest single a listen below!
