Liam Payne Announces Debut EP ‘First Time’ & The French Montana-Assisted Lead Single

Liam Payne is not quite finished with his debut album just yet. Back in May, the 24-year-old was on track for a September 14 release date. However, following his breakup with Cheryl and other big life changes, he decided that some of the material feels disingenuous with his current frame of mind. Don’t worry though. Instead of moving forward with his initial plans, he will drop an EP while hitting the studio to record some new material. Called First Time, the project will arrive next Friday (August 24). Comprised of four songs, the One Direction hitmaker links up with French Montana on the title track and lead single. Interestingly, his current single – the J Balvin-assisted “Familiar” – did not make the tracklist.

However, with titles like “Home With You” and “Depend On It,” it sounds like the project will be an emotional one. The “Strip That Down” crooner explained his decision in a press release. “As you may know, the last few months have seen some big changes for me.” he said. “I looked at some of the songs on my album which were done a while ago and they felt from another age. I’m determined for my debut album to truly represent me. I’m now back in the studio working hard to finalize the final few new songs on the record.” Although some artists would be disappointed by the change of plans, he assured fans that things were moving in a positive direction.

“I’m genuinely excited about the music I’m writing and recording and I can’t wait for it to be ready for you all, watch this space. In the meantime, this EP is a collection of songs that I’m really proud of and want you all to hear…tell me what you think. As always, thanks for your support – it means the world to me.” Check out the tracklist and get a taste of the sonic direction via a teaser Liam uploaded to Instagram below!
