Cher Announces 'Dancing Queen'
The pop icon revealed the cover and release date of her ABBA tribute album.

Cher’s album of ABBA covers, the gloriously camp Dancing Queen, is the one good thing to happen in 2018. So far, the pop icon has only treated us to a delirious interpretation of “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” — but she follows it up today (August 23) with “SOS.” Equal parts disco epic and sequin-strewn trainwreck, this is every bit as glamorous and unashamedly over-the-top as you would expect. Oh, and it goes without saying that the 72-year-old dusted off her Believe-era vocoder for the song.

Of course, Cher was inspired to release an ABBA tribute album after stealing every scene in box office smash Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. When the opus arrives on September 28, it will be her first official release in five, long years. (Justice for Closer To The Truth!) Hopefully, this project gets the living legend’s creative juices flowing. It would be amazing to get another album of original material before the 2010s come to an end. Listen to “SOS” below and be transported to a time when pop was fun.
