A Romantic Bop! Ashlee Simpson & Evan Ross Say “I Do” On Their Sweet New Single

Thank the pop gods because the return of Ashlee Simpson is finally upon us! Today (September 7), the pop/rock princess relaunched her career with the release of a new single called “I Do.” But fans of her earlier material may be in for a sweet surprise. Instead of riding in on a plucky production the likes of “La La” or “L.O.V.E.” (talk about iconic bangers), she linked up with her husband Evan Ross to drop a sugary lover’s anthem. Branding themselves Ashlee+Evan, the pair plans to unveil an album’s worth of material together. They also teamed up with E! to launch a reality TV show that will document the recording process and other moments of their life together.

That launches this Sunday (September 9), but they began teasing the music a little early. As predicted by the title and the nature of the creative venture, “I Do” is an adorable love song. “Something, you give me something. That special something no one ever could,” Evan croons on the opening lines. “Whenever I lose my way, you help me,” the “Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)” siren sweetly replies. “This love came over me like a hurricane. But I know you got me out the darkness. I can see. And baby, there’s no place I’d rather be.” The chorus is an equally endearing moment, and it is delivered with the utmost conviction. “You’re asking me if I love you. I do, I do, I do.”

The duo apparently plan on debuting a new track from the album ahead of each new episode. If they keep up at that pace, they should have the project out in no time. And once it is complete, I’m hoping to hear more solo material from Ashlee. In a recent interview with W magazine she shared some tantalizing teasers about the sound she would explore if she released her own music in 2018. “There would definitely be a hint of that pop-rocky sound, but still that soul that I grew up listening to,” she mused. Suffice it to say that I’m absolutely here for this.

In the meantime, give her romantic new bop a spin below!
