PRETTYMUCH’s Sold-Out Wiltern Show Was A Non-Stop Party
PRETTYMUCH had all the qualities of a supergroup when they debuted in mid-2017 with “Would You Mind” — tight choreography, smooth vocals, bangers crafted by the biggest names in pop and the backing of Simon Cowell. They just have just been waiting for the world to catch up. And that has been happening, little by little, with the arrival of each new song. Brandon Arreaga, Edwin Honoret, Austin Porter, Nick Mara and Zion Kuwonu took another step towards inevitable stardom with last night’s (October 21) sold-out show at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, CA.
The Funktion Tour is a ruthlessly impressive showcase split into three distinct acts. The guys got the party started with new single, “Real Friends.” And it beggars belief that the song only arrived three days ago given the rapturous response from fans who loudly sang along with every word. It’s a level engagement that most established acts could only dream of. After introducing themselves to howls of appreciation, PRETTYMUCH turned The Wiltern into q giant dancefloor with “Hello” and “Teacher.”
After a fun interlude and a quick costume change, the rising stars returned to stage and slowed things down a little with “Open Arms.” They then brought an understandably bewildered fan on stage and serenaded her with the Ed Sheeran-penned slow jam, “Summer On You.” And while the band has had access to pop music’s biggest names, PRETTYMUCH proved that they are capable of taking the reigns, creatively speaking, by debuting three self-penned bops recorded at their bachelor pad. Of the three, “Sauce” was the most instant and will hopefully find its way onto their much-anticipated debut LP.
As expected, PRETTYMUCH saved the best for last. The third act delivered a killer cover of Shai’s “If I Ever Fall In Love” (this needs to be on Spotify), a blistering dance-off, bangers “10,000 Hours” and “On My Way” as well as my favorite, “Solita.” After leaving the stage for a couple of minutes, the guys returned to belt out “Would You Mind” as the encore. The next time the quintet does a headline show in LA, you can’t help but think it will be in a much bigger venue. See the setlist below.
