Ellie Goulding makes an official return to music with the unveiling of her new single, “Close To Me.” The 31-year-old teased the project, a collaboration with Diplo and Rae Sremmurd rapper Swae Lee, on social media earlier this week. Today (October 24), it arrived, and the vibrant bop sounds like a surefire hit. On it, the “Army” siren sings about a partner in crime and their relationship. “Even though we’re kicked out the party ’cause we both hate everybody, we’re the ones they wanna be like,” she admits over a shimmering production. “So don’t let me down. Keep me in trouble. Born to be wild, out in the jungle,” she urges. “And I don’t wanna be somebody without your body close to me.” Swae Lee’s verse perfectly complements the track’s carefree vibe.

“Don’t say ‘sorry.’ Everyone’s watching. When you’re where I am, everything’s timeless,” he raps. The wild pair find an easy chemistry over Diplo’s beats. I’m living for their depiction of themselves as troublemakers with solid-gold hearts, and the summery production will warm up even the chilliest deep freeze this winter. With any luck, “Close To Me” will race up the charts in the coming weeks. And hopefully this means that Ellie’s fourth LP is following close behind. It has been three years since the ethereally voiced hitmaker unveiled her last album, Delirium. Since then she has collaborated with Sean Paul (“Bad Love”) and Kygo (“First Time”) and also graced us with a handful of creative stand-alone releases.

However, the time is definitely right for her to stage a full-fledged comeback, and this sounds like a strong start. Give the simmering anthem a listen below!
