Tara Lee Casts A (Dark) Spell With ’80s Synth-Pop Anthem, “Drive”: Premiere

As we inch closer to Halloween, a trickle of (very) dark-pop will begin to emerge. However, I doubt any of the spooky bops will come close to matching the chic, sinister synth-pop of Tara Lee’s “Drive.” Produced by Jonas Quant, the Irish singer’s new single marries ’80s-evoking electronica (it wouldn’t sound out of place on the iconic soundtrack of Nicolas Winding Refn’s similarly-titled film) with the breathy pop sensibility of Kylie Minogue. It’s a heady mix.

“[The song] is about embracing your demons, even the ones that aren’t real,” the 23-year-old explains. “It’s saying, ‘You think that’s bad? You have no idea’.” Those themes really come through in the self-directed video, which was inspired by a gruesome scene in the cult horror film, The Guest. Basically, our heroine goes for a late-night drive after committing a little murder. The cinematography, lighting and styling are all impeccable. This is a visual feast for lovers of the macabre. We are thrilled to premiere the striking visual up top.

Make no mistake, Tara Lee is definitely One To Watch.
