James Arthur has a budding hit on his hands with his current single, “Empty Space.” The heartbreaking anthem sees him struggling with a broken heart after losing a loved one. “I’m alone in my head, looking for love in a stranger’s bed,” the 30-year-old laments. “But I don’t think I’ll find it, ’cause only you could fill this empty space.” Since its roll out last month, the soul-searching ballad has amassed more than 5 million streams on Spotify alone. And it is likely to get a bump with the unveiling of its cinematic and equally arresting video. Directed by Andzej Gavriss, the release stars Tom Felton and puts a haunting spin on the single’s theme of loss.

In it, the former Harry Potter actor is chased by memories of a lost lover. Bouncing back and forth between flashbacks and scenes of him trying to drown the sorrow of his broken heart, we are able to put together a picture of how his life has changed. It isn’t until the end of the video that we learn why the lovers were separated. The twist adds an extra dimension of pain to the breakup and is bound to leave a lasting impression. “This is one of the proudest moments of my career so far,” James said in a post announcing the release. And it is easy to see why he feels that way. The visual is easily one of the most evocative of 2018. Check it out below.
