Carly Rae Jepsen staged an epic comeback with the unveiling of her bubbly “Party For One” last week. The first taste of new music from the dance pop mastermind, it will land on a forthcoming album slated for a 2019 release. On it she celebrates her independence and encourages self-love. And it is a message that is surely resonating with her fans. The single has been streamed more than 2 million times on Spotify, and its accompanying video has amassed more than 3 million views on YouTube. Last night the 32-year-old kept the forward momentum rolling with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Predictably, her first-ever televised performance of the new era is a fun moment.

Dressed in a chic black mini-dress, the “Run Away With Me” diva was joined by a live band. Delivering an impassioned vocal line, she exuberantly danced across the stage. “Party for one. If you don’t care about me, I’ll just dance by myself. Back on my feet,” she declared. “I’ll be the one. If you don’t care about me, making love to myself. Back on my beat.” Hopefully CRJ is able to schedule a couple more performances of the anthem in the coming weeks. It would be nice to see the Canadian hitmaker return to the Billboard Hot 100. The last time she made an appearance on the chart was with 2015’s “I Really Like You.” It is time for the public to stop sleeping on her underrated bops, and I’d love to see “Party For One” get the recognition it deserves.
