Noah Kahan Shows Off His Funny Side In “False Confidence” Video
After landing a streaming smash with “Hurt Somebody” (85 million accumulated Spotify streams and counting) earlier this year, Noah Kahan has continued to impress with catchy, folk-tinged anthems like “Come Down” and “False Confidence.” The latter is shaping up to be another hit, racking up close to 5 million streams in a month and steadily gaining ground on AAA radio. Not bad for a track that emerged from a moment of self-doubt. “[This] is a song I wrote when I felt like I was trying too hard to be what I thought an artist should be,” he reveals.
“I felt like I was losing my identity in trying to reach for some unattainable picture of a successful person; confident, polished, secure,” the 21-year-old continues. “I wrote ‘False Confidence’ to remember not to take myself so seriously.” That goal is certainly reflected in the video, which makes fun of the music industry’s obsession with image. After bombing at an open mic night, the newcomer tries out an array of “cool male artist looks,” before settling on something a little more authentic. Watch up top.
