Future Hit: Christian Lalama’s “FrFr” Is An Undeniable Bop

Christian Lalama debuted in the summer with a slick, hip-hop/pop concoction called “Tic Toc.” It marked the Ontario, Canada native as a potential star and it didn’t take him long to come through on that promise. The 15-year-old returns today (November 29) with a new single called “FrFr” and it’s a ruthlessly catchy bop that manages to be age-appropriate while still appealing to a wider demographic. That probably has a lot to do with production duo The Monarch (they have crafted hits for DJ Khaled and Nicki Minaj) and songwriters Rachel Salvit and Soaky Siren.

“You told me you were an open book, but we’re on different pages I can feel it,” Christian laments over bouncy beats. “Say my name baby say it, give something to hold on to.” That leads us to the massive chorus. “Are we doing this for real?” he sings. “For real, for real, for real? Are we loving? Is this something?” The banger comes with a cute video that (again) feels right for a teenager. It’s fun and carefree without looking like a Kidz Bop production.
