Brandi Carlile calls on Sam Smith for a new version of ballad, 'Party Of One.'

13 years of exquisite songwriting and gut-wrenching vocal performances finally paid off when Brandi Carlile became the most-nominated female artist at the 2019 Grammys. She is represented in six categories including Album Of The Year for the sublime By The Way, I Forgive You. For fans, this recognition has been a long time coming. For the uninitiated, now is the perfect dive into a discography filled with hidden treasures. If you need a starting place, look no further than “Party Of One.”

The beautiful ballad, which she recently performed with Sam Smith, now gets a suitably touching video starring The Handmaid’s Tale actress Elisabeth Moss. “When I thought about making a video for ‘Party of One’ I couldn’t stop picturing Elisabeth’s face,” Brandi explains. “I sent Elisabeth a letter and she called back and suggested creating a love story about two women and using a female crew. A brilliant group of women are responsible for every part of this incredibly human love story and I’m more proud of it than anything visual I’ve ever done.”

The actress also raves about the experience. “The main reason I wanted to be involved in this music video was because of this incredible song,” Elisabeth says. “When she sent me this song and shortly afterwards had asked me to be involved in the creation of the video, I said yes immediately because I fell so head over heels in love with the track. It’s one of those most beautiful musical pieces I’ve ever heard, right down to the string arrangement at the end.” It’s hard to argue with that opinion.
