The pop gods have been unusually kind to us of late, and this week is no exception. Ariana Grande will follow up the chart-topping, mega-viral success of “thank u, next” with “imagine” tomorrow night. Meanwhile, Avril Lavigne got a jump on New Music Friday by unveiling her new single, “Tell Me It’s Over” today (December 12). However, one of the week’s most anticipated releases comes from Katy Perry. The 34-year-old has been surprisingly active for someone who teased the possibility of taking a break from music after last year’s criminally underrated Witness. Last month she dropped an original Christmas carol and a cover of “Waving Through A Window” off the Dear Evan Hansen soundtrack. Today continues her trend of unexpected releases with her most surprising yet – “Immortal Flame.”

Katy’s latest collaboration commemorates a partnership with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. The gaming queen is going digital and will appear as a character in the popular mobile game. She marked the occasion with a new original song. Written in collaboration with Sarah Hudson and Ferras, it is a soaring power ballad that highlights her vocal abilities. On it she sings about the power of her emotions for a loved one. “Dreams hardly ever do come true. I guess I’m lucky ’cause I found myself waking up next to you,” she sings. “Oh, and with this raging heart of mine, I’ll love you til the end of time.” Her passion is even more evident on the powerful chorus. “Cause I want to live a thousand lives, and be your immortal flame.”

The single can be heard when fans log onto the game. However it also appeared in various forms online. Press play on Katy’s evocative new anthem below and download Final Fantasy Brave Exvius here.
