Ariana Grande continues her incredible hot streak with the unveiling of her latest smash, “imagine.” The 25-year-old has been ridiculously productive this year. She dropped her fourth album in June and is already putting the finishing touches on her next. Tentatively titled Thank U, Next, the LP is billed to arrive in early 2019. You’ll want to keep an eye peeled for an official release date, because it is likely to be bursting with bops. We’re already familiar with the title track, which is currently reigning supreme at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. It and its mega-viral video have utterly shattered streaming records since dropping last month. And today (December 14), we’re getting a second taste of the project with the unveiling of her lovelorn buzz track.

While the lead single celebrated self-love and fondly looked back on the pop princess’ former relationships, “imagine” takes a different route. Describing the song on Twitter, the “breathin” diva explained it is about “a simple, beautiful love that is now (and forever) unattainable.” Over sparse beats, she lovingly depicts the idyllic romance. However, it all comes crashing down as she moves into the chorus. “Imagine a world like that,” she wistfully coos. “We could light up ’til I’m ‘sleep on your chest. Love how my face fits so good in your neck. Why can’t you imagine a world like that.” Although the love story feels personal to Ari, the theme itself is instantly relatable. And don’t even get me started on the whistle notes toward the back end of the track. My wig was snatched straight off my head and sent into orbit.

Lush and incredibly honest, this may be one of my favorite songs from Ari this year. Hopefully it will get a standout moment on her Sweetener Tour next year. It practically begs for a live treatment and will likely be even more chill-inducing then. In the meantime, hold onto your wig and press play below!
