2019 is shaping up to be all about girl power on the Billboard Hot 100. Last week Mariah Carey’s seminal “All I Want For Christmas Is You” soared to number 3 on the chart. With Ariana Grande’s “thank u, next” at number 1 and Halsey’s “Without Me” at number 2, this made for the first time women occupied the entire Top 3 since 2014. And the women aren’t letting go as we move into the second week of the new year. Today (January 7), Billboard confirmed that “Without Me” dethroned “thank u, next” to claim the top spot. This marks the 24-year-old’s first solo number 1. Previously, she enjoyed a 12-week run at the spot alongside The Chainsmokers on “Closer.”

Halsey took to Twitter to respond to the news. “i’m speechless,” she wrote alongside a link to Billboard’s original report. Minutes later she shared a message of appreciation for her fans. “this song came out of a very lonely place and the past few weeks have showed me just how loved and supported i could be. thank you guys for everything. i don’t even know what to say.” Meanwhile, Ari hopped on Instagram to congratulate Halsey for the accomplishment. “fuck it up @iamhalsey,” she wrote in a post on her story. “to girls on top all 2019.” Rounding out the Top 3 this week is Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” off the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack.
