Sigrid's 'Raw' Approach
Norway's next great pop export tells us about her authentic approach to pop.

Sigrid has never released an average single, let alone a bad one. That trend continues with “Don’t Feel Like Crying.” The latest cut from the Norwegian pop star’s much-anticipated debut LP, Sucker Punch, is a remarkably upbeat breakup song. At least, on the surface. Dig a little deeper and it becomes clear that she’s simply postponing heartbreak for as long as humanly possible. “I know I should be ordering takeout, sitting on my couch — that’s what you do,” the rising hitmaker muses over pristine synths.

However, Sigrid has other plans. “I dry my eyes ’cause I don’t feel like crying,” the 22-year-old admits on the anthemic chorus. “At least tonight, no I don’t feel like crying.” There’s a whole sub-genre of songs about dancing the heartbreak away, but few tap into the emotional amnesia before the inevitable meltdown as honestly as “Don’t Feel Like Crying.” This is easily Sigrid’s most-accessible single since “Strangers” and should find a lot of love with radio programmers.
