Ashley Tisdale’s musical comeback gets better by the day. The 33-year-old kicked off a new era with the unveiling of her earnest “Voices In My Head” last year. The lead single to her highly anticipated third LP Symptoms is all about going to battle with self-doubt and anxiety. That trend continues on her latest track “Love Me & Let Me Go.” Out last week, the electro-kissed anthem boasts a gorgeous drop and a fiercely empowering chorus. “Love me and let me go,” she commands. “Walk away, finally let me breathe. Stop being so obsessed with me.” Although at first listen it seems like the pop princess is singing to a lover, it turns out the subject matter is a little different. “’Love Me & Let Me Go’ is a song where I’m talking to my anxiety,” she explained to Billboard.

She also shared some insight into the accompanying video. “The music video represents the feelings of being trapped and needing to let go.” Out today (January 30) the moody release illustrates the struggle of breaking free. In it, the pink-haired legend sits alone in a darkened room wearing a voluminous black dress. She serves equally compelling looks in a bathtub and while dancing along to the track in a handful of other settings. The final moments show that she manages to find peace. Recreating the single cover (a literal work of art), Ashley levitates above the ground. That moment of calm highlights her resilience and inner strength. With any luck, the video will help the hitmaker notch the era’s first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100. It would be a well-deserved accomplishment at this point.
