Wallows Announces Debut LP ‘Nothing Happens,’ Drops “Are You Bored Yet?”
Wallows hasn’t put a foot wrong since first making waves with a string of hazy, ’90s-referencing viral hits in 2017. They justified the buzz with a near-perfect EP (Spring was one of my favorite mini-albums of 2018) and now unleash the lead single from their debut LP, Nothing Happens. And, somewhat unsurprisingly, it’s another stone-cold gem. After dabbling in grunge and mellow Cali-rock on previous projects, Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston and Dylan Minnette take us to the ’80s on “Are You Bored Yet?” — a synth-driven collaboration with bedroom-pop queen Clairo.
Produced by John Congleton, the trio’s latest track chugs along on youthful confusion and deep-seated ennui. “‘Cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset,” Dylan and Clairo muse on the catchy chorus. “But I can’t help from asking, ‘Are you bored yet?'” The pain of growing is artfully conveyed in the Drew Kirsch-directed video (bottom of post), which features famous friends like Noah Centineo and Brian Jones. At this rate, Nothing Happens is shaping up to be one of the most exciting albums of 2019. It arrives on March 22 via Atlantic Records. Pre-order it here.
