Annabel Jones Talks Debut EP 'Libelle'
We speak to the rising pop star about her debut EP 'Libelle' & bittersweet pop.

Valentine’s Day is all well and good when you’re loved-up, but it’s less fun if you’re chronically single or stuck in a shitty relationship. Annabel Jones finds herself in the latter situation on “Excuses,” her first new single (features not included) since 2016’s “Not Today.” The Brit has always had a knack for getting to the heart of the matter, lyrically speaking, and “Excuses” positively oozes emotional fatigue. “She’s calling too late now, it’s two am,” Annabel laments over serene synths. “What’s the word I’m looking for? Inappropriate?”

The “I.O.U.” queen then lays out her cards on the chorus. “You send me pics that you’re sending her, you tell me things that you told her first, you look at me like I’m the worst, everything you do gets on my fucking nerves,” she half rants, half sings. “Call me in the morning with your excuses, excuses.” At a time when relatability is a hot commodity, “Excuses” has all the ingredients of a streaming hit. If this flawless bop is any indication of what’s to come from Annabel’s new era, synth-pop has a new power player. Listen below.
