Noah & Julia's 'Hurt Somebody'
Noah Kahan teams up with Julia Michaels for a new version of 'Hurt Somebody.'

2018 was a breakout year for Noah Kahan. The 22-year-old landed a streaming hit with “Hurt Somebody” (100 million+ Spotify streams and rising) and released his similarly-titled EP. He’s looking to build on that momentum with “Mess.” Produced by Joel Little, the lead single from his debut album is a rousing, sing-along anthem about the beauty of giving up. It was written while Noah was taking a break from touring, and pondered what would happen if he just threw in the towel and moved back to Vermont.

“My life has taken a 180 degree turn,” the singer/songwriter explains. “I’m on a very different path than what I thought I would do. I get nostalgic for the locale where I grew up, because the scenery is so beautiful. Going from this to bigger cities and tours is crazy for me.” Writing “Mess” was a form of therapy for Noah. “[It’s] a song I wrote during a very overwhelming and generally sad time in my life,” he admits. “Being able to work on this song and bring these feelings to light was a lifeline for me.”
