With releases from the likes of Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and the Jonas Brothers, this week has already been a big one for nostalgia. But iconic man band New Kids On The Block takes it to another level with the unveiling of new single “Boys In The Band.” Recorded for a special 30th anniversary re-issue of their critically acclaimed Hangin’ Tough album, the anthem is a celebration of all things related to boy bands. “You can hear them going crazy in stadiums in every nation. A never-ending celebration, baby. That’s how we show our dedication, the boys in the band,” they sing on the opening lines before fitting in a tribute to a slew of fellow groups including Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Jackson 5, BTS, One Direction and more.

The accompanying video sees them revisit the history of boy bands. Following an introduction from a teacher (Lance Bass), the quintet enters a classroom dressed as old men. However, their walkers and canes rapidly disappear for a trip down memory lane. Starting with the ’70s, they move though the decades. The lesson features plenty of costume changes, choreography and references to historic moments. And it also includes appearances from the likes of Naughty By Nature, Debbie Gibson and Joey McIntyre’s son Griffin. In a press release, Donnie Wahlberg opened up about the new video.

“I wrote the lyrics to the song as a homage to boy bands, but you can’t truly pay tribute to boy bands, visually, without a little self-deprecating humor. Nobody has thicker skin than boy band members,” he explained. Hopefully NKOTB will give us an equally fun performance of the track when they embark on the The MixTape Tour.
