Austin's 'Dirty Work' Is Big In Japan
In today's random pop news, Austin Mahone's 2015 single is huge in Japan.

Austin Mahone relaunched his music career on February 21 with a ’90s-inspired banger called “Why Don’t We.” Penned by Charlie Puth, the infectious bop finds the sweet spot between pop and old-school R&B. It promises big things for the 22-year-old’s US debut LP (he has already released one in Japan) and sounds like a potential hit. The arrival of an appropriately retro video will only help its cause. The clip showcases Austin’s underused dance skills (it was a big part of his act circa “What About Love”) and penchant for being shirtless.

“Why Don’t We” is a throwback to the Michael Jackson’s blueprint of a music video. Group choreography, a solo moment to show off and a scene or two where he chases a lucky lady. It stays admirably true to its ’80s and ’90s influences and brings the song to life by giving it context. All-singing, all-dancing male pop stars are an endangered species (Usher and Chris Brown spring to mind), so it’s nice to see Austin step up and take his place among them. Watch him in action up top.
