Emma Bunton Continues Serving Retro Vibes On New Single “Too Many Teardrops”

Emma Bunton is spicing up our lives with new music. Last month, the legendary hitmaker announced plans to drop a new album called My Happy Place. The LP doesn’t arrive until April 12; however, she generously shared the retro-inspired lead single “Baby Please Don’t Stop” shortly after making the announcement. The buoyant bop is all about being caught up in a flurry of romantic feelings for a lover. But Baby Spice is singing a different tune on follow-up single “Too Many Teardrops.” Out Saturday (March 9), the track is a resilient breakup anthem that sees her moving on from a failed relationship. “There’s too many teardrops I’ve cried. I could have filled me an ocean,” she coos on the swelling chorus. “Now I’m leaving this heartache behind. I might be bruised, but I won’t be broken.”

Written with assistance from Paul Barry and Patrick Mascall and produced by Metrophonic, it is another promising release from the “Free Me” icon. Emma opened up about the song and its sonic inspiration in a press release. “We’ve all been through things in life that make us stronger. I think I always bring that timeless, 60s feel into any music that I do. I was brought up on a lot of Motown, so I think it’s just a natural sound that I bring and with the lyrics as well.” She also opened up about how it felt to write new material for the album after stepping away from the studio for so long.

“At first, I must admit, I was quite scared by that,” Emma admitted. “I was nervous, I hadn’t done it for ages. I didn’t know if I was any good at it anymore. That was a very nervous process, but I think we got some really amazing songs out of it.” Thankfully she worked through those nerves because My Happy Place sounds more promising with each new song.
