It has been three years since Grace VanderWaal first charmed the public on America’s Got Talent. Armed with her ukulele, evocative voice and earnest lyricism, she came out on top of the prestigious talent competition. And she hasn’t slowed down since. After securing the win, she dropped a Top 10-charting EP in 2016 and her debut LP in 2017. Last year she toured North America alongside Imagine Dragons and signed on for a lead role in Disney’s Stargirl. The 15-year-old kicked off 2019 with the release of her new single “Stray” last month. A shockingly self-aware anthem, it addresses the terrifying but exhilarating feeling of growing older. Hello, relatable content. And today (March 15), she’s back with another new track – “Hideaway.”

Her latest is a contribution to the Wonder Park soundtrack. And it acts as something of a counterbalance to “Stray.” Whereas the other was about the unavoidable passing of time, “Hideaway” is about embracing her youth with a Peter Pan-esque level of dedication. “So let’s just play pretend and find a secret place. Where the world around us says that we should act our age,” she sings over the sweet production. “The day is gonna come when there’s no time left to waste. But we’ll never grow up. I say we hide away.” The final product feels very on brand and is sure to be a great fit in the movie. It is also yet another testament to Grace’s incredible potential.

The “Moonlight” singer continues to impress every time she hits the studio, and I can’t wait to see what comes next. In the meantime, press play on “Hideaway” below!
