Daya's Catchy 'Insomnia'
The pop star reinvents herself with a catchy club anthem called 'Insomnia.'

Daya’s “Insomnia” ranks as one of the best pop songs of 2019. Ruthlessly catchy and endlessly danceable, the Oscar Görres-produced anthem portrays the 20-year-old in a whole new light. The video, which was directed by Nick Harwood, reflects Daya’s reinvention. The Girl Next Door persona that dominated her debut era is nowhere to be seen in the gritty clip. Instead, our heroine is really going through it, sitting alone in a dark room at a warehouse while revelers do their thing on the dance floor.

“‘Insomnia’ at its core is a gritty club pop anthem about missing the person you love, so it felt appropriate to take the visuals in a rave direction in a grimy abandoned warehouse that feels like something you’d stumble into at 3am in Berlin to temporarily neglect whatever pain you’re feeling,” Daya explains. “Nick Harwood took this vision and perfectly brought it to life by adding intense strobe lighting and other atmospheric elements to capture these flickering moments of desperation and loneliness.”
