James Bay and Julia Michaels have a hit on their hands with “Peer Pressure.” The sexually-charged duet has already racked up 15 million Spotify streams and is starting to make waves at radio. It should get another boost from the arrival of a stripped-back, intimate video that showcases the duo’s easy chemistry and artistry. James and Julia simply perform the song on an empty stage, dappled in different colored lights. The less-is-more approach really works with the material. You don’t need bells and whistles when this kind of talent is on display.

At this point, it’s unclear whether “Peer Pressure” is the first taste of James’ third LP or part of a deluxe edition or rerelease of 2018’s underrated Electric Light. On the album, the Brit broadened his canvas to include ’80s synths and Prince-inspired grooves. It was quite the progression from the acoustic singer/songwriter fare of his chart-conquering debut, but still possessed the same songwriting craft and knack for lingering melodies. Check out the video for “Peer Pressure” below.
