In case you have been in a coma or without an internet connection for the last month, Lil Nas X has a huge crossover hit on his hands with “Own Town Road.” An instantly hummable fusion of trap and country, the rising hit became something of a cause célèbre on social media when Billboard controversially removed the song from their Hot Country chart for “not [embracing] enough elements of today’s country music.” It was a state of affairs that resonated with “Achy Breaky Heart” legend, Billy Ray Cyrus.

“Been watching everything going on with OTR,” Miley’s dad tweeted. “When I got thrown off the charts, Waylon Jennings said to me ‘Take this as a compliment’ means you’re doing something great! Only outlaws are outlawed.” Well, the genre-mixing partners in crime have now joined forces on a remix of “Old Town Road.” And just like the original version, it works better than it has any right too. “Hat down, cross town, livin’ like a rockstar, spent a lot of money on my brand new guitar,” the 57-year-old croon/raps in his verse. “Baby’s got a habit, diamond rings and Fendi sports bras, ridin’ down Rodeo in my Maserati sports car.”
