Premiere: Logan Henderson Gets Real About Love On “End Of The World”
Logan Henderson is definitely someone you want to keep an eye on. The Texas-native made waves as one-fourth of the mega-popular boy band Big Time Rush. And the hits didn’t stop when the group went on hiatus in 2014. After taking some time off to travel and learn more about himself, he launched a solo career with the hypnotizing “Sleepwalker.” That was just a taste of what was to come. Last year, he unveiled his debut EP Echoes Of Departure And The Endless Street Of Dreams – Pt. 1. The 7-song collection showcases his boundary-pushing musicality and willingness to take risks to full effect.
His hot streak continued with the release of “Pull Me Deep” toward the back half of last year. The slinky bop will land on Logan’s second EP (Part 2 of Echoes), which is due to drop this spring. And Friday (April 12), he returns with the project’s second single – “End Of The World.” Unsurprisingly, it is another win. “I think this is kind of like my first proper ballad that people get to see or hear, and it’s a really special one,” the hitmaker said of the self-produced song in a press release. On it, he sings about the strength of his feelings for a loved one. But there is a slight twist: Their relationship is far from perfect.
“Sometimes we yell just to yell, sometimes I hate you. Sometimes it’s all my fault and I frustrate you. It’s as if we make up just to do it all again,” he admits over aural beats. Things take a turn on the chorus. Why? He realizes that there is no one else he’d rather have in his life. “When it’s the end of the world, you’re the only one I want by my side.” In doing so, Logan offers a true portrait of a relationship. Instead of skimming over rough spots and flaws, he embraces them. And the end result is infinitely more relatable.

I also had the chance to ask him a couple questions about everything else he has in store for 2019. Aside from sharing the inspiration for his latest single, he opened up about a forthcoming tour with Jake Miller (tickets available here), offered insight into the new EP and talked about what it is like performing as a solo act. “End Of The World” has such a smooth sound. Can you tell me about how it came together?
I came in to the studio after a night of binge watching a show called “End of the Fucking World” on Netflix. I became obsessed and fascinated with the characters and fell in love with the unusual and intriguing story between the two. It helped fuel the story I wanted to tell. We started with a guitar line that really spoke to me and the song came together pretty quickly from there.
Is it inspired by a particular relationship of yours?
The song is definitely personal but I think it’s still very relatable to other people.
Why did it feel like the logical follow up to “Pull Me Deep”?
Without any other reason, it was the next song I recorded after “Pull Me Deep.”
Speaking of “Pull Me Deep,” the track has such a simple but striking video. Do you have any plans for a music video this time around? If so, can you offer any hints?
Yes, I find a lot of beauty in telling a story that is simple yet effective. I plan on making more videos that reflect that.
“End Of The World” is on the tracklist for your new EP, Echoes Of Departure And The Endless Street Of Dreams – Pt. 2. What other song would you say you’re most excited for fans to hear?
Each song is very different, and each has a life of its own.
Do you have any overarching goals that you hope to achieve with the EP?
All of the new songs I’ve written are very true to me. If the people listening can take something with them that resonates with their life then that’s my main goal. I want to make music that encourages new thought and really makes you feel something.
Also, can you talk a little about the EP’s title and what it means to you?
I have a very vivid imagination and have always been intrigued by dreams and what they mean and stand for. I was having a series of dreams at the time that led me to write the stories and put out this album. I felt it was necessary in order to move on from my past and find closure for myself.
This week you start your tour. What should fans expect from the show?
Personally, touring is one of the most rewarding experiences. It’s cool when the fans and I can finally come together and really connect with each other in one place. There’s no other feeling like it in the world.
What is your favorite part of touring?
Meeting everybody at the shows, playing unreleased music and traveling in general.
How would you say performing live as a solo artist differs from working with a group?
The difference is night and day. There is a sense of complete freedom in doing everything on my own.
What would you say is the most important thing you learned as a member of Big Time Rush that you apply to your career today?
It really helped shape the artist I want to be and showed me the dedication it takes to have a long lasting career.
Risk taking and boundary pushing seem to be very important to you creatively. Can you tell me a little about why that is the case?
I do it out of necessity to keep myself interested. Change is one of the most important things to me. The more I can reinvent myself and find new ways of doing things—getting out of my comfort zone—that’s how I know I’m on the right track.
What is one thing you most want fans to know?
I’m here for them. I love what I do, and I couldn’t do it without them. I plan to make music for the rest of my life, and I’m excited to continue my journey with everyone!
