Julia Michaels and Niall Horan's 'What A Time' video is suitably emotional.

Julia Michaels is the undisputed queen of collaborations. So far this year, the prolific singer/songwriter has joined forces with Niall Horan, Selena Gomez and James Bay. Today (April 23), she adds another name to the list. The 25-year-old teams up with LA-based trio LANY for a vulnerable breakup anthem called “okay.” The song documents a one-sided split. “Is it wrong to think you’re sadistic? I know you’re sleeping perfect, while I’m over here hurting,” Julia and LANY frontman Paul Klein sing on the chorus. “I’m gonna be okay, right?”

How did it all come together? “We actually wrote this song a little over a year ago, and it’s just kinda been sitting in the vault,” Paul tells Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “It was a pretty intense day, just, just emotionally,” Julia recalls of the session. “We had both been going through a lot… there was one point where [Paul] looked at me, very seriously, and was like, ‘I’m going to be okay, right.’ And I was like, ‘We need to write this. We need to write this right now.'” The “What A Time” hitmaker then gave a little update on new music.

“It’s going really well,” she confided. “I’m finishing [Inner Monologue] part two now, and I don’t know when I’m gonna put it out yet, cause you know me, I like to overthink every little thing.” Listen to her latest perfect pop song below.
