Cam Talks 'Diane' & Her Sophomore LP: Interview
Rising country star Cam tells us about her new single and sophomore LP.

EDIT: The post has been updated with the video, which was filmed at Stagecoach and features cameos from Guy Fieri, Dwight Yoakam, Billy Ray Cyrus, Sam Hunt and Lil Nas X.

If the success of Lil Nas’ “Old Town Road” has taught us anything, it’s that country music is changing. The next step in the genre’s evolution, it seems, is an unexpected alignment with EDM. While country artists have lent their twangy vocals to bangers in the past (Maren Morris & Zedd’s “The Middle” springs to mind), Diplo ups the ante by tinkering with the genre itself. The super-producer kicks off his Thomas Wesley project with “So Long” — a country-club concoction featuring the vocals of Cam.

“Don’t know why you’re scared to let me love you, you know I can treat you right,” Cam declares over strummed guitar and a pulsing beat in the opening verse. “I know that you’re good at being lonely.” The song really takes off, however, when the fiddle arrives for the chorus. “I know you’re fine doing life on your own but that doesn’t mean you should spend it alone,” the “Diane” hitmaker croons. “Cause boy you’ve been flying solo for so long.” There’s even a drop of sorts. Grab your cowboy hat and get ready to boot scoot to Diplo’s groundbreaking banger below.
