Jesse Saint John takes the next step on the path to sustained solo stardom with the release of don’t stop dancing. life gets sad. After honing his songwriting talents working with the likes of Britney Spears (“Love Me Down”) and Camila Cabello (“Something’s Gotta Give”), he launched an artist project with last year’s “MOVE.” And the hits have not stopped coming since then. Several of his best cuts made the tracklist for his debut EP. In particular, the back half of the 5-song collection is comprised of familiar bops. It all starts with the bone-rattling lil aaron and OjiVolta-assisted “WHAT DO YOU LIKE 2.” Next up is “CRYING,” which boasts one of pop’s most surprising but compelling switch-ups in recent memory.

The hitmaker closes things out with “WISER.” The contemplative song is one of his best and most relatable. “What if I’m not getting any wiser? I’m only getting older. What if I’m not getting any stronger? I’m only getting colder,” he worries on the chorus. And the new material holds up with the quality of his previous releases. EP opener “WALL” features a second contribution from lil aaron and a verse courtesy of Brooke Candy. Over ominous beats, the trio drop straight fire. “Does not matter what you do. I can’t be as weak as you,” Jesse growls. “I don’t feel no pain at all. Smash my head against the wall.” In comparison, the AUGUST 08 collaboration “Alex’s Song” is a more reflective moment built around a sing-along chorus.

“I’m finally ready. This is the most me. Most pop, most alternative, most sad, most vulnerable, most numb,” Jesse explained in a press release. “With features from Brooke Candy, AUGUST 08, lil aaron & OjiVolta, this music is brimming with hooks, energy, experimentation & genuine emotion.” Give the EP a listen below and let us know what you think.
