The Drop: CYN, Yuna & MAX
Your guide to New Music Friday featuring gems from CYN, Yuna and MAX.

Edit: One of the best pop songs of 2019 now has one of the most striking videos. Watch CYN’s “Holy Roller” visual below.

CYN has been releasing pop gems since 2017 when she debuted with the light and airy “Together.” The 26-year-old has showcased her versatility, bouncing effortless from the tender balladry of “I’ll Still Have Me” to the rock-adjacent “Terrible Ideas.” She switches it up again on “Holy Roller” — a quirky, sing-along anthem about a particularly brutal case of infatuation. “I’ve been feeling higher powers when you lay with me, like a holy spirit all confused about who it’s supposed to be,” the pop star muses.

“I’m feeling like a holy roller, like I joined a cult,” CYN sings on the catchy, dementedly romantic chorus. “I’m feeling like a holy roller and it’s all your fault.” It turns out, the lyrics are to be taken quite literally. “[The song] is about sacred dedication and blind faith in someone,” she explains. “To me, the lyrics reveal the aftermath of a party from the night before but still remain serious in their declaration of a cult like devotion.” All of CYN’s singles have been (very) good, but there’s something special about “Holy Roller.” Listen below.
