Mabel caught lightning in a bottle with “Don’t Call Me Up.” With more than 257 million Spotify streams, the feisty banger is one of the most unforgettable hits from the first half of 2019. And that shows in the amount of success it had on the charts. It went Top 3 in the UK and became her debut entry on the Billboard Hot 100. It can be hard to follow up those awe-inspiring numbers. However, it doesn’t look like the rising star struggled at all. Today (June 7) she returns with her new single “Mad Love.” And it sounds like it could be just as massive.

On it she reunites with “Don’t Call Me Up” collaborators Steve Mac and Kamille. But there’s a marked thematic shift this time around. The former was a celebration of her independence, and this one is all about demanding some good loving. “Boy you lookin like my type, but tell me, can you hit it right,” she asks on the opening lines. “‘Cause if I let you in tonight, you better put it down.” Her requests – voiced on the chorus – are enjoyably direct. “All night give me mad love,” she belts out. “Yeah, don’t let me down.”

She brings the sexy bop to life and executes some impressive choreography in the accompanying video. And it is already performing very well. Since dropping this morning, the visual has been viewed more than 1 million times. “Mad Love” serves as the lead single to Mabel’s forthcoming debut album – High Expectations. The project drops August 2 and is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
