Katy Perry’s “Never Really Over” is off to a very good start. This week, the Song Of The Summer contender debuted at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 after amassing more than 27 million Spotify streams. Meanwhile, the music video is shaping up to be another viral success. It racked up an impressive 41 million views in under two weeks. These numbers contributed to her strong premiere on the chart, which, according to Billboard, makes for her highest since the release of “Chained To The Rhythm” in 2017. Of course, that single kicked off her Witness era. Clearly, this is a sign that fans are desperately awaiting news about a highly anticipated fifth album.

Thankfully, we got an update on the status of more new music today (June 10). In an interview with Music Week, Virgin EMI president Ted Cockle (head of Katy’s UK label) opened up about her plans moving forward. “There’s plenty of goodness to come,” he assured. However, it does not look like a release date is set in stone yet. Instead, the diva’s schedule appears to be more organic. Her goal? To “have some fun making music and be excited about the songs,” Cockle explained. But have not fear. An album is in the works. “The album will come in its own fine time,” he added. Sounds good to me. In the meantime, revisit her latest Top 20 bop below.
