Album Review: Madonna's 'Madame X'
The Queen of Pop pushes the boundaries of pop on her radical new album.

Just when you thought Madonna had pressed pause on the Madame X promo to prepare for her upcoming tour, the Queen of Pop rolls out a random (but very welcome) “Crave” remix. If any track from the living legend’s 14th album is going to cut through ageist bullshit and take off on radio, it’s this. The Swae Lee-assisted bop is easily the most accessible track on Madonna’s genre-shifting opus and it has already found a little love at Adult Contemporary radio. (Not an easy feat for a sexy hip-hop/pop hybrid).

Madonna will now vie for the attention of clubbers with a dance-pop overhaul courtesy of MNEK. Of course, the Language hitmaker has previously worked with M on Rebel Heart. (He co-wrote “Hold Tight” and can be heard singing backing vocals on “Living For Love”). The Brit leaves “Crave” largely intact, but raises the BPM and trims down the verses. At this point, it looks like Madonna is promoting every song on the album with at least a music video, so it will be interesting to see what tidbit arrives next.
