Miley Cyrus’ “Slide Away” Is A Pointed Breakup Song
Miley Cyrus seemingly addresses her breakup with Liam Hemsworth on new single “Slide Away.” Produced by Andrew Wyatt and Mike WiLL Made-It, the raw, emotional track doubles as a therapy session. “Once upon a time it was paradise, once upon a time I was paralyzed,” she begins the track over woozy guitar. “Think I’m gonna miss these harbor lights but it’s time to let it go.” As the song progresses, Miley makes her reasoning crystal clear. “I want my house in the Hills, don’t want the whiskey and pills,” the 26-year-old belts on the chorus.
“I don’t give up easily, but I don’t think I’m down,” the hitmaker continues. “So won’t you slide away back to the ocean, I’ll go back to the city lights.” The allusion to substance abuse is further emphasized by the cover art, which depicts empty liquor and pill bottles floating around in a pool. “Slide Away” is believed to be the first taste of SHE IS HERE — one of three EPs scheduled to be released in 2019. It follows the May release of SHE IS COMING and precedes SHE IS EVERYTHING. Listen to “Slide Away” below.
