FLETCHER Bares Her Heart On ‘you ruined new york city for me’

FLETCHER is the undisputed Queen Of Heartbreak in 2019. The 25-year-old has been on an incredible hot streak since dropping “Undrunk.” A brutally honest, sucker punch of a breakup anthem, it earned the rising star her biggest hit to date. How big? It amassed more than 58 million Spotify streams and became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100. She followed it up with equally gut-wrenching songs “If You’re Gonna Lie” and “About You.” And she’s not done yet. Today (August 26), Cari (her real name) packages the three gems with two new tracks on you ruined new york city for me. Taken as a whole, the EP is a concept project detailing a failed relationship.

“All Love” and “Stranger,” the collection’s two new releases, pick up where the others left on. On the former, FLETCHER sings about the feeling of running into an ex she’s not over yet. “I take another shot. Need the novocaine. Wish it would numb the heart, way it numbs my brain. But it’s all love,” she laments. It’s even worse because her former partner has clearly moved on. The latter finds her reaching the last of the five stages of grief: (reluctant) acceptance. Fittingly, it closes out the EP by bringing an end to the saga. “We started out as strangers, now we’re strangers again. The things I love about you, I’m supposed to forget,” she realizes.

Poignant, relatable and incredibly catchy, you ruined new york city is easily one of the strongest EPs of the year. Press play on it below and pick out a favorite track or two.
