There is no denying that 13 Reasons Why always has an excellent soundtrack. Selena Gomez (one of the show’s executive producers) and Billie Eilish lent their voices to season 1. However, the breakout release was Lord Huron’s “The Night We Met.” First released in 2015, it belatedly climbed the Billboard Hot 100 after being featured. Meanwhile, Sel’s “Back To You” broke into the Top 20 and emerged as the highlight of season 2, which also featured Billie and Khalid’s “lovely” and Troye Sivan’s “My My My!.” So it goes without saying that expectations are high for the upcoming season. And show-runners got things very right with Daya’s “Keeping It In The Dark.”

Out today (August 16), her contribution sounds like a surefire hit. On it, Daya sings about a secret romance over a catchy production. “I run from everyone, and I tell lies. You run your fingers through my hair and smile ’cause nobody believes that this is right,” she sings. “But we’re so right.” It all builds up to an anthemic chorus. “Under the street lights, nobody knows our names. Tracing the tree lines and shadows around your face. Falling asleep and waking up with the stars. It’s our little secret, we’re keeping it in the dark.” It’s easy to imagine this soundtracking a major moment during the show. And it will be in good company.

Other season highlights include Lauv and Anne-Marie’s “fuck, i’m lonely” and a to-be-released song courtesy of 5 Seconds Of Summer. It remains to be seen if Selena has anything in the works this time around. While we wait and see, familiarize yourself with “Keeping It In The Dark” below.
