Missy To Be Honored At 2019 VMAs
Missy Elliott will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards.

EDIT: First, the bad news. It turns out that Iconology is an EP and not an album. On the bright side, it’s very, very good. Stream it below.

The 14-year wait for Missy Elliott’s 7th LP is almost over! The legendary rapper surprised fans by announcing the release of “a collection of new songs” (i.e. an album) at midnight tonight. “This year has been a tremendous year for me… I am humbled and grateful,” she says in reference to her honorary doctorate and MTV Video Vanguard Award. “THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!”

“So, I have a SURPRISE for you… let’s continue the celebration at midnight tonight,” Missy revealed. “I’m dropping a collection of new songs! Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance!” The 48-year-old also shared the stunning cover art of Iconology (below). It will be interesting to see if the album includes 2015’s “WTF (Where They From)” and 2017’s “I’m Better.” Both stand-alone singles are bops and deserve a cosy home in the rapper’s discography.
