Ben Platt Switches It Up With Dance-Pop Anthem “Rain”
Ben Platt’s Sing To Me Instead is one of my favorite albums of 2019. The 25-year-old’s knack for writing gut-wrenching lyrics combined with his honesty and heartfelt vocals makes for a gripping listen. However, there’s more to the Dear Evan Hansen star than ballads. As he proves on “Rain.” The stand-alone single, which arrived tonight (August 22), finds Ben dabbling in dance-pop. “You’ve been through this before, you gave away all your secrets,” he begins the song. “To someone who up and left you in pieces, I know the feeling — believe me.”
Instead of letting the past define them, Ben suggests they give love another shot. “Hey! I know we’ve both been afraid but we can’t run from the wind and the thunder,” the “Grow As We Go” singer belts on the chorus. “When we’re dancing under the rain, the rain, the rain.” If you like your synth-pop bops with a heavy dose of emotion, this is the song for you. “I hope it brings you dance & catharsis,” Ben tweeted. “May I suggest you blast it.” Good idea.
