Taylor Swift’s “The Man” Is A Fiercely Feminist Anthem

Lover is here! Today (August 24) is the day Taylor Swift’s much-anticipated seventh LP arrives. We’re still diving into the tracklist, which includes an impressive 18 songs. One of those (“Soon You’ll Get Better”) features a contribution from the Dixie Chicks. I’m not remotely calm about that. Keep an eye peeled for an official review of the album in the very near future. In the meantime, I’d like to turn my attention to one of the early standouts – “The Man.” On it, the “ME!” diva takes on the patriarchy over vibrant synths.

And Taylor makes several points. She puts it very succinctly on the chorus. “I’m so sick of running as fast as I can. Wondering if I’d get there quicker if I was a man. And I’m so sick of them coming at me again. ‘Cause i I was a man, then I’d be the man.” Co-written and -produced alongside Joel Little, it showcases the 29-year-old’s sharp wit and powerful pen.
