Diplo & Morgan Wallen Visit The County Fair In Their “Heartless” Video

Eyebrows were raised when Diplo revealed he was working on a country EP (as Thomas Wesley), but he proved the doubters wrong with “So Long.” The dreamy country/EDM collaboration with Cam is evidence that the genres can combine harmoniously. It also showed a level of restraint that is also apparent on “Heartless.” At its core, this is a quintessentially country song. “Say you goin’ out late, I count down ’til you call me,” Morgan Wallen croons. “It’s just one of those things that you do when you’re lonely.”

That leads us to the synth-dappled chorus. “But why you gotta be so heartless?” the “Whiskey Glasses” hitmaker demands. “I know you think it’s harmless, you’re tearing me apart.” The track immediately won over fans on both sides of the genre divide, climbing to number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. It should soar a lot higher with the arrival of a feel-good video, which finds Diplo and Morgan taking in the sights and sounds of a county fair.
