James Arthur delivers another taste of his long-awaited third album YOU with the release of “Treehouse.” Out today (September 6), the single finds him joining forces with Ty Dolla $ign and British up-and-comer Shotty Horroh. On it, they offer an escape for when life gets tough. “I know you get tongue-tied, and you trip over your words. Spend all of your young life on your tiptoes, and it hurts,” the 31-year old commiserates. But he has a solution. “Come, come meet me at my treehouse,” he urges. “Yeah, we can pretend the world’s just you and me when the lights are out below us.”

The velvet-voiced hitmaker reminds listeners that taking a break doesn’t make them weak. “It doesn’t mean we’re giving up the fight now. Everybody needs a place to hide out,” he croons over the lush production. “‘Treehouse’ is a song about surrendering,” James explained in a press release. “Going to a safe place, a sanctuary where you can get away from your troubles. The sentiment is ‘it’s okay not to be okay’, just take a load off and go to your happy place.” He also opened up about who the song is directed toward. As it turns out, that’s open to interpretation.

“The line ‘I don’t know why you don’t ask for help’ could be directed at me, but everyone feels life getting on top of them at times. That’s the message I want to share. It’s an inclusive song, not a personal one.” His latest joins previous singles “Naked,” “Falling Like The Stars” and “Empty Space” on the tracklist for YOU. Other songs on the LP include collaborations with Blink 182’s Travis Barker and Adam Lazzara of Taking Back Sunday. Based on the quality of what we’ve heard thus far, I’ll be counting down the days until it drops October 18. In the meantime, press play on “Treehouse” below.
