UPDATE 2: The “2099” video is here! You can watch it below.

Charli XCX and Troye Sivan took us back in time on their nostalgia-inducing “1999” last year. And that was just the first of their two collaborations for the Brit’s self-titled album (out September 13). Now, the dynamic duo is heading straight into the future on “2099.” They live-premiered the track during Go West Fest back in June. Today (September 10), an official studio version followed, and it’s another serious banger. Produced by A.G. Cook and Ö, it’s easily the most experimental and forward-thinking song off the tracklist so far.

Opening with a burst of sharp and drill-like synths, the hitmakers come in together. “I pull up, roll up, fuck up. Fast like a Nascar. Never touch us. Got visions, levels. They don’t get me. Quiet, no discussions. Please hush,” they command on the opening lines. As the song proceeds, the futurists only get fiercer. “Got no cage,” they sing. “Wanna listen when I say, ‘think I care about the fame? Na, na, na, na.'” The end result is yet more proof that they’re willing to buck whatever trends get between them and their craft.

And it only gets better. How so? Charli revealed that she and Troye recorded another video. Considering that the one we got for “1999” was one of the best of 2018, this is sure to be another must-see. Not only that, but she also confirmed that she shot another “thinggg.” Some fans are speculating this will be for “White Mercedes.” While we wait for more details (and count down the hours, minutes and seconds until Charli arrives) press play on “2099.”
