Film Review: Melanie Martinez's 'K-12'
Melanie's 'K-12' is a dazzling movie musical with one hell of a soundtrack.

Now this is what you call a serve! Melanie Martinez dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (September 16) to perform a mini-concert of songs from the very, very good K-12, and went all out with elaborate costumes and dance routines. Unfortunately, only one song has been posted on YouTube (more clips are sure to follow) — but it gives you a good idea of how far the alt-pop star has upped the ante this time around. She belted out K-12 highlight, “Strawberry Shortcake,” in a giant Marie Antoinette-inspired ensemble, while dancers emerged from under her skirt.

The 24-year-old sounded incredible and did a very good job of recreating the “Strawberry Shortcake” segment from her movie musical. Speaking of K-12, the album is already shaping up to be a huge success for Melanie. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and cracked the top 10 in most major markets including the UK, Australia, Canada and Spain. As for the film, the 90-minute spectacular garnered 20 million views in its first week on YouTube. That comes after a limited theater release in more than 400 screens in 32 countries.
